Heaven is a Place on Earth: Works by Anna Cruz and Adam Lavigne
05/10/2019 - 05/28/2019

On Friday, May 10th, Anna and Adam bring their unique vision to the walls of the Mills Gallery with an exhibit they call, “Heaven Is A Place On Earth”. They’re the right people to state that claim if you’ve ever seen their work in person. This will be an exciting part of this year’s art-going season with two of the most promising artists working today - in our area or beyond.

If you attended any of the number of art exhibits that happen across the Central Florida area, you may have seen the colorful and charming work of Anna Cruz and Adam Lavigne. The two have been collaborating for 4 years and have had dual shows in Orlando since 2015. Dreamy, dark, and sometimes funny, their work explores paradise imagery and celestial bodies. Inspired by their home, Florida, bright and primary color palettes fill the heavy black lines that define their work, reminiscent of the moods captured by the Highwaymen school of art.

Harold Garde
BURN THIS DOWN:
Reflections on the Art World
04/05/2019 - 05/03/2019

Gallerist Boris Garbe and artist Marla E present a provocative exhibition of selected works by renowned American Abstract Expressionist, Harold Garde.  Experience the extraordinary achievements and continued vitality in Abstract and Figurative Expressionism by a master who believes "painting is truth."  Through his bold large scale works and the art form he created known as Strappo, Garde is becoming recognized as one of the leading painters of his generation.

Curator Victor Bokas is presenting a body of work representative of what Garde sees as a decline in today's society.  It is evident when meeting Garde that he was not an angry young man.  He is, however, a furious old man - ready to BURN IT DOWN!

A special thanks to Udo Garbe and Bernhard Garbe whose support provided the creation of this catalogue.

Learning Contentment from the Dutch

01/27/2017 - 03/05/2017

This timely exhibit follows on the heels of a reportedly successful Art Basel Miami 2016, where several Dutch artists were seen in the Wynwood arts district, the galleries represented at SCOPE, and at Bridge - the new Dutch Pavilion. During a period of economic and political uncertainty for most art collectors and aficionados, Dutch art is being exhibited at an unprecedented rate, coupled with a rise in “must-see” art installations in the Netherlands. The pragmatic and direct approach of Dutch art and culture seems to appeal to a wide audience and speaks to the abstract, with pared-down aesthetics centered in basic visual elements such as geometric forms and primary colors. The creators in the LDVC exhibit envision their art to be a universal visual language that is appropriate to the modern era and the fluid movement of so many cultures across borders. The Dutch artist lineup includes Clemens Briels, Jan van Lokhorst, Judith Braun, Laurien Renckens, Marianne Y. Naerebout, and Erik Langkjaer.
